ndustry Odisha Bureau, Aug 14: OpenAI has introduced a new Computer History feature for the ChatGPT desktop app. It allows ChatGPT to remember activity across selected apps and websites. This will give the AI more context about what users have been doing on their computers. It is to be noted that the update is currently available for the desktop app on Mac.
The feature is designed to reduce the need for users to repeatedly explain their previous activity. For instance, users could ask ChatGPT what they were working on earlier, find a document they recently viewed or get a summary of their day’s work.
Now, how does ChatGPT Computer History work?
Instead, the feature uses activity data available through macOS accessibility features. This includes information such as clicks, typing, keyboard shortcuts and switching between applications.
OpenAI says ChatGPT can also use this history to identify repetitive workflows. It may then suggest turning frequently repeated tasks into a skill or automation.
Is Computer History turned on automatically?
Users can decide which apps and websites contribute to their Computer History. They can also pause activity collection and review or delete their stored history.
Who can use the feature?
For Business and Enterprise accounts, administrators must first enable the feature before individual users can activate it.
However, the feature is not initially available in the European Economic Area, Switzerland, or the UK. For the users who have access, ChatGPT Computer History update remains completely optional.
