Industry Odisha Bureau, Aug 13: In latest news, OpenAI is expanding ads on ChatGPT to more markets, and India appears to be among the next countries to see them. Some users in India have received emails from OpenAI informing them about changes to the ChatGPT privacy policy and the introduction of ads.
The email says ads may appear on the Free and Go plans. ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Enterprise, Business and Education plans will continue to remain ad-free. Notably, the Go plan costs Rs 399 per month in India. Meanwhile, Plus is priced at Rs 1,999 per month.
OpenAI has already introduced ads on ChatGPT in the US. The company is now officially expanding the programme to markets including the UK, Mexico, Brazil, Japan and South Korea. Ads are also being tested in Australia, New Zealand and Canada.
The most common question that might arise amid this update – Will the ads affect ChatGPT’s answers in any way?
To this, OpenAI says that it will not. The company has stated that ads will not influence ChatGPT’s responses. Advertisements will be clearly labelled as “sponsored, and displayed separately from the chatbot’s answers.
Further, the company may personalize ads using information available within ChatGPT, such as a user’s interactions with advertisements or relevant chat context. However, OpenAI says advertisers will not have access to the users’ chats, chat history, memories, or personal information.
Notably, Advertisers will only receive aggregated performance data. Such as the number of views or clicks that their ads receive.
For Indian users, the rollout mean Free and Go subscribers may soon see sponsored content while using ChatGPT, although OpenAI has not yet formally announced the India rollout.
