Industry Odisha Bureau, Aug 18: Jio has announced that its popular Rs 299 plan will continue to be available. Interestingly, this will remain available to both new and existing users. However, customers who want to protect the current price of eligible plans for the next year will need to sign up for Jio Prime.
The membership costs Rs 300 and comes with a price guarantee valid until September 5, 2027. This means that if Jio increases its tariff during this period, Prime members can continue recharging eligible plans at their existing prices.
The offer comes shortly after Airtel discontinues some prepaid plans, including its Rs 299 recharge. This is because it pushed users towards higher priced options. Meanwhile, Jio has chosen to retain its Rs 299 plan, although customers have to pay for Prime to secure the price guarantee.
The Rs 300 membership fee is a one-time payment and is available to both prepaid and postpaid customers. However, the price lock does not cover every Jio plan. It applies only to plans that Jio identifies as eligible.
Prime members will also receive cashback vouchers worth Rs 600. These include a Rs 300 voucher for taking a new JioHome or JioPC connection and another Rs 300 voucher for adding a new Jio SIM for a friend or family member.
Jio’s Rs 299 prepaid plan currently offers 1.5 GB of daily data for 28 days. This comes along with JioHotstar access, 5,000 GB of JioCloud storage and Google Gemini Pro too. Users can purchase Jio Prime through the My Jio app, Jio’s official website, Jio Stores and authorised partner outlets.
