Industry Odisha Bureau, Oct 21: In latest news, Apple is expected to unveil a redesigned MacBook Pro and other devices at its ‘Pro and Tell’ event on October 28. Speculations continue to grow that Apple could finally introduce touchscreen support to its MacBooks.
Unlike its usual product launches, the showcase will reportedly take place without a live keynote. Meanwhile, Apple is also expected to announce the products through press releases. Selected media representatives will get hands-on access to the devices in Los Angeles. New Mac computers and an updated iPad mini are also anticipated.
The biggest rumoured upgrade is a touchscreen MacBook Pro. This will potentially mark a major shift in Apple’s laptop strategy. Traditionally, the company has kept touch input exclusive to devices such as the iPad, relying on keyboards and trackpads for MacBooks.
Expected specs and pricing in India
The redesigned MacBook Pro could feature OLED displays in 14-inch and 16-inch variants. It will also have deeper blacks, richer colours and improved contrast. Reports also suggest that Apple may replace the existing screen notch with a Dynamic Island style cutout.
The high-end models are expected to use M5 Pro and M5 Max processors rather than the next-generation M6 Pro and M6 Max chips. A slimmer, lighter body and a reinforced hinge could also be seen. Apple may also adapt macOS with larger controls and menus suited to touch input.
OLED technology and touchscreen capabilities could increase the price by around 20 percent. The starting price in India could reach approximately Rs 3.6 lakh. Although, Apple has not officially confirmed the pricing or specifications.
It is a well known fact that Apple has long resisted touchscreen MacBooks. In 2010, co-founder Steve Jobs criticised touchscreen laptops as ‘ergonomically uncomfortable.’ Meanwhile, software chief Craigh Federighi expressed reservations about the concept in 2018.
