Industry Odisha Bureau, Aug 21: The Department of Consumer Affairs (DoCA), a division of India’s Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution (MoCAF&PD), is reportedly going to initiate a probe into the allegations against the manufacturing defects in China’s Oppo Reno5 series smartphones.
Media reports, citing government sources, have stated that, “Being India’s apex consumer watchdog, the DoCA is presently examining scores of complaints lodged with the National Consumer Helpline.”
Notably, “The DoCA is responsible for consumer protection, legal metrology, price monitoring, and enforcement of key laws such as the Consumer Protection Act 2019 and the Legal Metrology Act 2009.”
Media reports, citing government sources, have also stated that, “Senior executives of Oppo Guangdong Mobile Telecommunications Corp Ltd will be asked to present their case as well as provide details on the complaints, and the steps taken to address them.”
Media reports, citing government sources, have further stated that, “The DoCA probe will also help determine the way so that the aggrieved and affected Oppo Reno5 series customers could be appropriately compensated.”
It is also being reportedly claimed that, “Some aggrieved and affected customers have been assured replacements of the handsets by the Oppo company’s service centres across India.”
