Industry Odisha Bureau, Sep 05: Stellantis is discussing long-term industrial cooperation involving its Maserati brand. Huawei and JAC Group are reportedly part of these talks. The discussions were confirmed by two sources familiar with the matter. Maserati faces mounting strategic pressure amid weak recent performance.
CEO Antonio Filosa said Stellantis is pursuing further manufacturing partnerships broadly. These partnerships include potential cooperation specifically involving the Maserati brand. Such deals have become central to Stellantis’ new long-term strategy. Filosa made these comments earlier this year regarding company direction.
A new Maserati arrangement could benefit production rates in Italy. The Cassino and Modena plants manufacture the brand’s current models. Both facilities could see positive production impacts from expanded cooperation. However, no specific production targets have been confirmed publicly yet.
Maserati’s recent performance underscores why new strategic options matter. The brand shipped fewer than 8,000 cars during the past year. It posted an adjusted operating loss of $198 million. This translates to approximately $230 million under standard currency conversion.
These ongoing talks arrive ahead of a significant strategic milestone. Maserati is scheduled to present its own long-term strategy in December. The timing suggests industrial cooperation discussions could inform that broader plan. No details of the December strategy have been disclosed so far.
Huawei’s specific role within these discussions remains publicly unclear. JAC Group’s proposed contribution has similarly not been detailed. Neither company has confirmed technology, financing or manufacturing commitments. The reported talks do not represent a finalized industrial arrangement yet.
Italian outlet Milano Finanza first reported these discussions on Friday. It described ongoing engagement between Stellantis, Huawei and JAC Group. Reuters subsequently confirmed the talks through two independent sources. Both outlets characterized negotiations as active but still unresolved.
A Stellantis spokesperson addressed the reports through a general statement. The company routinely discusses various topics with global industry players. These discussions aim ultimately to expand customer mobility choices, the spokesperson said. This framing stopped short of confirming any specific Maserati arrangement.
The reported talks highlight Stellantis’ broader push toward manufacturing partnerships. Whether Huawei or JAC Group formalizes cooperation remains genuinely uncertain. Maserati’s December strategy announcement may clarify the brand’s manufacturing and industrial-partnership direction going forward.
