Industry Odisha Bureau, Oct 03: Jio Platforms could open its public offering on October 21. Roadshow feedback from foreign funds was reportedly positive. The issue comprises only fresh shares, with proceeds earmarked largely for debt repayment.
Reliance Industries is moving its digital business closer to public-market scrutiny. Jio Platforms has completed global investor roadshows ahead of a proposed October listing. People familiar with the process say internal preparations are nearly complete. The Jio Platforms IPO would put a public price on Reliance’s sprawling digital operations.
Foreign funds signal appetite
Foreign institutional investors responded positively during the Jio IPO roadshow. Sources described the feedback as unusually positive. Several investors reportedly said recent market volatility would not materially dent their interest. Domestic institutions also showed stronger interest than expected, the sources added. Akash Ambani and Isha Ambani led the global roadshows, the Economic Times reported.
Such feedback matters for an issue of this size. Deep institutional books aid price discovery and execution confidence. Positive meetings, however, are not binding orders.
A provisional October timetable
The proposed schedule envisages an anchor book on October 19. The public offering could open on October 21 and close on October 23. Jio Platforms shares could then list around October 28. Those dates remain subject to market conditions and global developments.
Jio filed its draft red herring prospectus with SEBI in June 2026. The regulator issued its final observations on August 28. That cleared a key regulatory hurdle, though it guarantees nothing about demand. The company is reportedly monitoring volatility before finalising the launch.
Fresh capital, lighter borrowings
The offering would comprise fresh shares only. That means money flows into the company rather than to selling shareholders. Most proceeds are earmarked to repay or prepay roughly ₹27,500 crore of borrowings. Those borrowings belong to Reliance Jio Infocomm, the group’s telecom subsidiary. The remainder would fund general corporate purposes. Lower borrowings could give the business more financial flexibility.
More than a telecom operator
Investors increasingly view Jio as a broad digital-services business, sources indicated. Reliance Jio Infocomm had 524.4 million customers as of March 31, 2026. Of these, 268.5 million were 5G customers. It also counted around 15 million fixed-wireless-access subscribers. The business spans mobile connectivity, home broadband, enterprise technology and international services. That breadth will shape how fund managers approach any Jio IPO valuation.
Testing market depth
Separate reporting has estimated the offering at around $3.8 billion. Final pricing and valuation had not been fixed at the time of reporting.
Half the issue is reportedly reserved for institutions, including the anchor book. Retail bids up to ₹2 lakh would get 35% of the issue. Larger non-institutional applications would take the remaining 15%. Absorbing a multi-billion-dollar issue will test the Indian IPO market’s depth.
Valuation clarity for Reliance
A listing would give Jio a standalone public-market valuation for the first time. That benchmark could separate its worth from Reliance’s conglomerate structure. It would also give the digital business direct access to equity markets.
Execution now matters
Jio has moved from preparation towards possible execution. Investor demand, final pricing and market conditions will decide the outcome. For now, the October timetable remains a plan, not a certainty.
