Industry Odisha Bureau, Oct 16: Workers across Odisha will now earn more, following a fresh revision of minimum wages. The state government has raised the Variable Dearness Allowance (VDA) by ₹6 per day. The hike applies uniformly to all categories of employment in the state.
Labour Commissioner Indramani Tripathy has issued the official notification. The revised rates came into force on October 1, 2026.
Unskilled workers will now get ₹478 a day, up from ₹472. Semi skilled workers will earn ₹528, compared to ₹522 earlier. The daily wage for skilled workers rises from ₹572 to ₹578. Highly skilled workers will receive ₹628, against ₹622 earlier.
The latest revision covers workers in both organised and unorganised sectors. It is expected to benefit thousands of families dependent on wage labour. The VDA is revised every six months to cushion workers against rising prices.
The government said the decision reflects Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi’s focus on labour welfare. Labour and ESI Minister Ganeshram Sing Khuntia has backed regular, inflation measures linked wage revisions. Principal Secretary of Labour and ESI Dooda Venkat Swamy steered the administrative process.
Such periodic revisions aim to protect the purchasing power of Odisha’s workforce.
