Industry Odisha Bureau, Sep 2: A massive but mysterious island is reportedly being spotted appearing and disappearing on Canada’s largest Williston reservoir in northern British Colombia.
International media reports have stated that, “The mysterious island is claimed to be spannig 1,761 sq kms, while some other estimates claim that the spotted island is nearly the size of two National Football League (NFL) fields [total area of an NFL field is said to be 1.32 acres].”
International media reports have also stated that, “Satellite imagery dated July 21, 2026 confirmed that the island was in fact real and was captured floating in the main body of the reservoir west of Finlay Bay, about 100 kms west of the WAC Bennett Dam (a large hydro-power generating dam on the Peace River in northern British Columbia, Canada), while the mysterious island was amazingly vanishing from the satellite data by August 5. It was, however, spotted by a local resident on August 12 closer to the reservoir’s eastern Peace Reach. But, it once again surprisingly disappeared and was claimed to have been respotted by a local resident named Rocky Avery on August 30.”
Despite such reports flooding the social media posts there, international media reports have also stated that, “The mysterious island might have been formed along the reservoir’s shoreline over several years following driftwood that would have kept gathering and decomposed, while plants and trees could have created a root system aiding the island kept together, and the treetops might be enabling it to sail through the reservoir.”
