Industry Odisha Bureau, Sep 03: ISRO will launch India’s first EOS-05 Earth observation satellite on Friday morning. The satellite represents India’s first Earth observation satellite in Geosynchronous Orbit positioning. EOS-05 will launch from Second Launch Pad at Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh. Launch timing is scheduled for two fifty-five AM Indian Standard Time Friday.
Geosynchronous Orbit positioning will enable EOS-05 to match the Earth’s rotation continuously. Unlike lower-altitude satellites that capture moving snapshots, EOS-05 offers truly persistent observation. The satellite will provide continuous, real-time viewing of the exact same region. This continuous observation capability distinguishes EOS-05 from conventional satellite imaging systems entirely.
EOS-05 is designed to support monitoring of remote borders and conflict zones. Twenty-four-hour observation capacity would enable continuous surveillance of all critical geographical areas. The satellite could support round-the-clock monitoring previously unavailable to Indian space capabilities. Persistent regional observation offers strategic advantages for border security and monitoring operations.
GSLV-F17 will carry the EOS-05 satellite toward its Geosynchronous Orbit positioning objective. This represents the nineteenth mission for the three-stage Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle. GSLV has recorded twelve successes, four failures, and two partial failures overall. The launch vehicle’s track record provides important context for this important mission.
EOS-05’s launch follows the critical PSLV-C62 mission anomaly that occurred in January. The PSLV-C62 encountered a critical anomaly during the final third-stage burn phase. That mission ultimately failed to achieve orbit, resulting in sixteen satellite losses. ISRO returns to the launchpad following the unprecedented PSLV-C62 mission anomaly recently.
India’s Earth observation capabilities have historically relied on multiple lower-altitude satellite systems. EOS-05 would represent a major expansion of India’s space-based Earth observation surveillance capabilities. High-altitude positioning offers persistent coverage advantages unavailable through conventional satellite systems entirely. The mission demonstrates ISRO’s expanding technical capability in advanced satellite deployment operations.
