Industry Odisha Bureau, Aug 28: Google has announced Expert Intelligence, a new feature that connects trusted sources with its AI products. The initiative is starting with Google Play books and Gemini Notebook.
Under the new feature, users can add eligible ebooks they have purchased through Google Play Books to Gemini Notebook. Once added, users can ask questions about the book and receive answers based directly on its content.
The feature also allows users to create infographics, Audio Overviews, quizzes and other AI-generated content using the book as a source. Google said that Expert Intelligence currently supports more than 1,00,000 books from publishers. These include Bloomsbury, De Gruyter Brill, Johns Hopkins University Press, Macmillan Publishers, O’Reilly Media and Penguin Random House.
The company has also introduced controls to protect authors and publishers. Users must own an eligible book through Google Play Books before they can use it with Gemini Notebook.
If a notebook is shared with other people, collaborators will be asked to purchase their own copy of the book to access its content. Those without a copy will not be able to use the book as a source.
Google said the initiative could also help authors reach new readers by making their work easier to discover through AI tools.
Users can check if a book is eligible by visiting its Google Play Books listing. If supported, Gemini Notebook will appear under the Tools badge on the book’s details page. Further, Google also plans to expand Expert Intelligence to the Gemini app and AI mode. It also plans to support additional sources, including third-party subscriptions, business research reports and textbooks.
