Industry Odisha Bureau, Oct 07: Google has expanded Gemini’s capabilities in Chrome to Android users in India. With this, it has brought its auto-browse feature to subscribers who want the AI assistant to handle multi-step tasks on the web.
The auto-browse feature, notably, is available on Chrome for both desktop and Android in India. However, the access is limited to Google AI Pro and AI Ultra subscribers. Meanwhile, the broader Gemini in Chrome experience is now available to all Android users in the country.
With auto-browsing, Gemini can navigate websites and perform multiple tasks. These including, filling out online forms, booking parking and adding grocery items to a shopping cart. For instance, users can ask Gemini to read a recipe, identify its ingredients and add them to a supported shopping website for review before checkout.
Users retain control over sensitive actions. Gemini can ask for confirmation before completing certain steps, while users can take over the browser at any time. Google also shows a task plan before auto browse begins. These include the websites Gemini intends to visit and information it may share.
Gemini in Chrome can also answer questions about webpages, summarise lengthy content and connect with apps such as Google Calendar and Keep. Google’s Nano Banana image-generation and editing capabilities are also being integrated into Chrome.
Usage limits apply to auto-browse. Google AI Pro subscribers can complete up to 20 tasks a day, while AI Ultra subscribers get up to 200.
Google said the feature includes safeguards against threats such as prompt injection, but stressed that auto brow remains experimental and users are responsible for reviewing Gemini’s actions.
