Industry Odisha Bureau, Sept 26: India’s women’s Kabaddi team clinched the gold medal at the Asian Games 2026. This came after they defeated Iran 37-34 in a closely contested final on Saturday.
India started strongly and held a 22-16 lead at half-time. Iran fought back in the second half, scoring 18 points to India’s 15. However, the Indian team held on to secure the title.
As per reports from official sources, after the victory, the Indian players celebrated with a lap of honor around the area and chanted “Vande Mataram.”
The gold continues India’s strong record in women’s kabaddi at the Asian Games. India have won the women’s title in every edition except the 2018 Jakarta Games, where Iran defeated them in the final and India took silver.
India’s men’s team will also face Iran in the men’s final later on Saturday. Notably, they have a chance to compete for a kabaddi gold double.
India have traditionally dominated kabaddi at the Asian Games, with both teams winning gold in most editions. The men’s team also reclaimed the title at the 2023 Hangzhou Games after missing out in 2018.
