Industry Odisha Bureau, August 3: Latest reports suggest that Apple is planning to transform its future smart glasses and AR headsets into health and fitness tracking devices. This will expand its wearable ecosystem beyond the capabilities currently offered by the Apple Watch and AirPods.
According to a report from Bloomberg, the company intends to equip future smart glasses with a range of sensors. These will be capable of monitoring users’ health, fitness metrics and body movements. However, these features are unlikely to be available in the first generation Apple smart glasses. Notably, the glasses are expected to make their debut next year.
The report further said that Apple had initially planned to bring similar health and fitness capabilities to the Apple Vision Pro headset. The company was also exploring a dedicated version of Apple Fitness+ for the mixed reality headset. This will allow users to follow workout sessions while the device analysed their movements and tracked fitness data.
Moreover, Apple is now exploring ways to integrate similar functionality into the much smaller form factor of smart glasses. The company is reportedly working on sensor technologies that could record health-related information without compromising the lightweight design of the wearable.
Apple’s future glasses are expected to complement existing wearable devices such as the Apple Watch and AirPods. These already offer health related features including heart rate monitoring, activity tracking and hearing aid capabilities.
