Industry Odisha Bureau, Oct 05: Denza, the premium electric vehicle brand owned by Chinese automaker BYD, has officially confirmed its entry into the Indian market. The brand announced its arrival through a social media post featuring its blue-and-silver hourglass logo and the message “Arriving soon.” It also promised a sophisticated and high performance EV experience.
Denza was established in 2010 as a joint venture between BYD and Mercedes-Benz Group. Mercedes-Benz later exited the partnership in 2024, transferring its stake to BYD. The brand currently sells luxury electric vehicles and plug in hybrids across several international markets.
The Denza Z9 GT is expected to be one of the first models introduced in India. The four-door shooting brake features a 122.5 kWh battery and three electric motors producing a combined 1,156 hp. The all-wheel drive model can reportedly accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 2.7 seconds. Notably, it also has a claimed top speed of 270 kmph. Its WLTP range is rated at 600 km.
The Z9 GT also gets a rear wheel steering, enabling features such as crab walking and a 360-degree Compass Turn. It is equipped with a triple screen dashboard, level 2+ ADAS, leather upholstery, a 20-speaker Devialet audio system. It also has powered, heated, ventilated and massaging front seats. Its expected price in India is around Rs 1.2 crore to Rs 1.5 crore.
Denza is also expected to introduce the D9 luxury MPV, which could rival the MG M9 and Toyota Vellfire. The India-spec model is likely to feature a 103 kWh battery, a 313 hp electric motor, and a claimed WLTP range of 520 km. The MPV is expected to offer a 2+2+3 seating layout, second row captain’s chairs, three zone climate control, massage functions, a Dynaudio sound system and leather upholstery.
The Denza D9 is expected to be priced at around Rs 90 lakh, although official India pricing and launch details are yet to be announced.
