Industry Odisha Bureau, Aug 10: In a bizarre as well as shocking development, certain scientists abroad have reportedly created viruses using the artificial intelligence (AI) for the first time, while those viruses are claimed to be not existing on the planet (Earth) inhabited by the humans and other living beings.
It is being reportedly claimed that, “The scientists are mulling to use it for medical breakthroughs, while it is being apprehended that such a creation by dint of AI could prompt to create further deadly pathogens, like the COVID-19, since the catastrophic Corona virus is being rumoured to have got leaked from a science laboratory.”
International media reports, quoting researchers and their research study, also claimed that, “These AI-made viruses have been termed as ‘bacteriophages’ that could only infect bacteria, since these human-made viruses were tested to eliminate E. coli bugs that cannot be eliminated by the natural bacteriophages. These AI-model viruses could help overcome resistance, transform phage therapy, control deadly bacterial infections and expand biotechnological toolkits.”
International media, quoting experts, have, however, reportedly cautioned and warned that, “This AI-model technology has to be used with utmost caution since it could be used to develop more complex forms of life and even build biological weapons. Thus, biosafety, biocontainment and biosecurity considerations are the major concerns that need to be absolutely guarded against.”
