Industry Odisha Bureau, Jul 8: In view of the constant demand being reportedly made by India-based telecommunication companies (Telcos) for allowing them to use high-power/faster Wi-Fi band, the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) is reportedly in a dilemma whether to approve or not, since the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has reportedly raised grave concerns against it, because the DoT’s nod could cause interference with ISRO’s existing satellite operations.
As per media reports, “The telecom operators in India are demanding for allowing them to use high-power 6 gigahertz (GHz) WIFI band, while the ISRO has raised grave concerns against it, because the stronger outdoor Wi-Fi signals could interfere with the existing satellite operations.”
Need to be mentioned here that, DoT had reportedly “allowed the low-power indoor and very low-power outdoor license-free 6 GHz band last year in a bid to aid next-generation Wi-Fi devices and faster home broadband, while the higher power 6 GHz Wi-Fi band’s signal is so stronger to travel farther that it could pass through walls and other obstacles more effectively, and also could maintain a stable connection over wider area.”
Media reports stated that, “the Indian telcos have proposed for formally allowing them to expand their wireless broadband coverage as it could help them to cater to the needs of their users residing in the areas where optic-fiber-laying is either an uphill task or too expensive.”
On the other hand, ISRO has reportedly raised its grave concerns before the DoT reportedly arguing that, “allowing the telcos to use high-power Wi-Fi devices to transmit high-power signals over radio frequencies outdoors could interfere with its satellite operations.”
Meanwhile, a special committee reportedly appointed by the Government of India (GoI) has already submitted its report to the DoT, and the important report is reportedly being examined.
