Industry Odisha Bureau, Sep 05: iBRICS 2026 will bring sovereign capital to New Delhi next week. More than 500 investors and institutional leaders are expected. Represented capital across participants totals roughly $1 trillion. The summit aims to connect capital with bankable infrastructure projects. Infrastructure, energy and digital capacity remain central focus areas.
India hosts the 18th BRICS Summit on September 12-13. The venue is Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. India holds the BRICS Chair for 2026. This year’s theme emphasizes resilience, innovation, cooperation and sustainability. The Ministry of External Affairs confirmed this on August 27.
Separately, iBRICS 2026 convenes at The Oberoi, New Delhi. The Sovereign Wealth Fund Institute organizes this founding-edition summit. It runs alongside the main BRICS Leaders’ Summit. iBRICS seeks to directly connect sovereign capital with allocators. Project owners and global investors will engage in matchmaking.
Participants include sovereign wealth funds and public pension funds. Major Gulf and BRICS family offices will also attend. These institutions collectively manage close to $1 trillion. This scale highlights potential capital available, not committed investment. SWFI was founded in 2008 by Michael Maduell.
The gathering targets infrastructure, energy and digital capacity projects. Technology, critical minerals and energy transition are additional priorities. Organizers describe this as matching capital with financeable projects. No specific individual projects have been named publicly yet.
The summit responds to shifting global trade dynamics currently. US tariff pressures and high dollar-clearing costs feature prominently. SWFI says these conditions increase interest in alternatives. BRICS economies are exploring more flexible capital-allocation mechanisms.
Day one features a closed-door roundtable of 250 principals. The Sovereign Capital Compact will be signed that day. Day two includes pre-matched bilateral deal tables. Sector-specific roundtables will also run throughout day two. Another 250-principal roundtable will map settlement corridors and targets.
A public signing is planned for September 12. It aims to cement cross-border funding commitments across sectors. These include infrastructure, technology, critical minerals and energy transition. The programme will also address payment-system interoperability discussions.
Sessions will explore linking UPI and Brazil’s Pix networks. CBDC interoperability discussions follow RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra’s recent confirmation. He confirmed a dedicated BRICS payments task force earlier. These remain active discussions, not finalized payment agreements yet.
iBRICS 2026 reflects broader efforts to modernize BRICS financial plumbing. Its founding edition tests whether capital and projects can align. Success will depend on translating discussions into actual commitments across the BRICS bloc’s expanding investment landscape.
