Industry Odisha Bureau, Sep 19: The Center has set a time bound target for drug-free India. The three year roadmap will run from 2026 through 2029. It combines enforcement, prevention, rehabilitation and inter-agency coordination. More than 200 action points support the national programme.
Center Sets Clear 2029 Target
The Center wants India to become free from drug abuse. The target includes measurable responsibilities for ministries and state governments. Quarterly reviews will assess implementation and accountability. The time bound framework aims to strengthen execution nationwide.
Roadmap Will Test Drug-Control Systems
The programme will test drug enforcement systems across multiple agencies. Authorities will focus on organised trafficking networks. Financial investigations will target proceeds generated through illegal drug trade. Asset seizure and confiscation will support network disruption.
Synthetic Drugs Get Priority
Synthetic and chemical drugs form another major policy focus. Authorities will target clandestine manufacturing laboratories. Precursor chemicals will receive stronger digital monitoring. The government seeks complete visibility across precursor supply chains.
Every State to Strengthen Enforcement
The roadmap requires stronger Anti-Narcotics Task Forces nationwide. Every state should have a fully equipped force. The target is scheduled for completion by March 2027. Inter-state coordination will also receive greater policy attention.
Youth Become Central to Prevention
The Center plans wider youth participation across India. Schools and colleges will become important prevention zones. Youth organisations will support awareness campaigns. The government plans one lakh Nasha Mukt Mitras.
Rehabilitation Gains Equal Importance
Enforcement alone cannot make India drug-free. Treatment and rehabilitation will therefore remain central priorities. Demand reduction programmes will target vulnerable communities. Medical institutions will support recovery and social reintegration.
Forensic Capacity Gets Time Bound Goals
The government wants faster forensic reporting in narcotics cases. Reports should become available within 30 days. Faster analysis could strengthen investigations and prosecutions. Technology will also support intelligence gathering.
Whole of Society Approach
The Center wants wider participation beyond enforcement agencies. Educational institutions will join prevention campaigns. Medical institutions will support treatment efforts. Communities will also participate in building a drug free India.
India Targets Structural Change
The time bound roadmap extends beyond seizures and arrests. It focuses on prevention, enforcement, rehabilitation and coordination. The target is ambitious but clearly defined. For India, 2029 becomes the key drug free milestone.
