Industry Odisha Bureau, May 23: Objecting vehemently to the Hormuz hurdle adamantly effected by Iran as well as terming it as ‘Contrary to International Law”, the Member States of European Union (EU) on Friday reportedly initiated actions against the Iran officials and others involved by slapping sanctions against them.
The European Council that represents the EU Member Nations reportedly said in its official statement that, “The EU will now be able to introduce further restrictive measures in response to Iran’s actions undermining the freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.”
It is being reportedly said that the EU sanctions would be imposing “Travel Bans” and “Freezing of Assets”.
Media reports further said that, “EU citizens and companies would now be prohibited from making funds, financial assets or other economic resources available to the sanctioned Iranian individuals or entities.”
Notably, irate Iran has been blocking the globally critical chokepoint – Strait of Hormuz – till date bringing navigation to a standstill, adversely disrupting the supply chain triggereing volatility in the crude oil and natural gas exports. The blockade has been done by Iran as a retaliatory measure to the massive airstrikes by its sworn enemies US and Israel that have not only played havoc on Iran’s strategic infrastructures, but has also relentlessly killed its Supreme Leader, scores of senior leaders, and above all, hundreds of innocent schoolgirls when the conflict broke out in the wee hours of February 28 this year.
