Industry Odisha Bureau, Oct 22: Mukesh Ambani showed Rubio Reliance’s refining, new energy and data centre projects. Talks covered supply security, digital power needs and openings for US firms. The visit came amid India-US trade negotiations.
Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani hosted US Secretary of State Marco Rubio at Jamnagar. Their talks centred on energy security, industrial technology and commercial cooperation. Anant Ambani, Reliance’s executive director, and US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor also attended.
The delegation toured the integrated complex, which houses the world’s largest refinery. Jamnagar sits on the Gujarat coast in western India. Visitors saw the complex’s scale, advanced technology and linked operations at first hand. Its refining and petrochemical units operate as one connected system.
Reliance also briefed the Americans on its New Energy giga-factories. These plants are being commissioned in phases, according to a company statement.
Phased commissioning means capacity will come online gradually. The Ambanis set out a long-term vision for Jamnagar beyond refining.
They see the site becoming a centre for deep technology, innovation and advanced manufacturing. The strategy would broaden a complex long defined by petroleum. Discussions ranged across the global energy landscape, covering both conventional and new energy.
Participants examined how to secure reliable and affordable supplies. Resilient supply chains, technological advances and investment needs also featured. Such investment is needed to meet rising demand, the statement noted.
For India, a major crude importer, dependable supply remains a strategic priority. Global energy trade patterns have shifted as importers diversify their suppliers.
That makes trusted partners and flexible processing capacity increasingly valuable. India’s large refining base also shapes its role in global fuel markets.
The Ambanis shared views on possible collaboration with American companies. They pointed to complementary strengths in technology, engineering and advanced manufacturing. Such partnerships could span equipment, industrial services and energy technology.
Reliance called the meeting a constructive exchange of industry perspectives. The statement did not announce any investment, partnership or supply agreement. Reliance said the tour spanned its investments across energy and digital infrastructure.
The visitors were also briefed on data centres still under construction. Talks explored how closely power and computing are now linked. Data centres need large, uninterrupted power supplies to function.
Growing artificial intelligence workloads are raising power demand worldwide. Dependable electricity is therefore central to expanding the digital economy. Energy groups with generation assets are increasingly well placed to benefit. Rubio began his India visit in Mumbai on Tuesday, meeting External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar.
They reviewed the strategic partnership and progress on a proposed bilateral trade deal. He also laid flowers for victims of the November 2008 Mumbai terror attacks. Six Americans were among those killed. The tribute underlined shared security concerns between the two democracies.
His Gujarat stop came amid wider bilateral talks on energy trade. Those talks include India’s imports of Russian oil. They also cover prospects for larger Indian purchases of American energy. For now, the Jamnagar talks remain exploratory rather than transactional. Still, the visit showed how energy, industry and diplomacy now intersect.
