Industry Odisha Bureau, Aug 28: Odisha has distributed the fifth installment of the Subhadra Scheme to beneficiaries. Chief Minister Shri Mohan Charan Majhi led the distribution ceremony held in Nayagarh. More than 1.03 crore women across urban and rural areas are receiving assistance. The government presents Subhadra as a foundation for broader women’s economic empowerment.
The Chief Minister emphasized that Subhadra goes beyond direct financial transfers to households. Placing financial resources directly into women’s hands can strengthen independence and agency. The scheme aims to contribute to wider social and economic transformation across Odisha. Deputy Chief Minister Shrimati Pravati Parida and Assembly Speaker Shrimati Surama Padhy attended.
Subhadra is designed to complement the Lakhpati Didi initiative supporting women entrepreneurs statewide. While Subhadra provides immediate financial support and strengthens women’s financial participation, Lakhpati Didi channels resources toward income-generating activities and business ownership. This complementary framework seeks to transition women from financial assistance toward sustained entrepreneurship.
Direct financial support can potentially strengthen women’s ability to make household decisions independently. Women’s increased economic participation may influence consumption, healthcare choices and children’s education. Financial inclusion can expand women’s confidence in managing money and resources strategically.
