Industry Odisha Bureau, Aug 12: Google’s Gemini has crossed a major milestone, with more than 1 billion users now using the AI assistant every month. CEO Sundar Pichai took to X to announce the achievement. In which, he mentioned that Gemini is the company’s fastest growing product to reach the milestone.
Sundar Pichai said, “1 billion plus people are now using the Gemini app every month.” He added that “much more” is still to come. His comments come just ahead of Google’s expected Pixel 11 launch, where the company is likely to showcase new Gemini features.
Notably, the 1 billion figure refers specifically to the Gemini app. It does not include people using Google’s AI features through other products. Google’s AI mode in Search has separately also crossed 1 billion monthly users.
Gemini first became available as an app in early 2024. It has therefore taken around two and a half years to reach the mark. YouTube took roughly eight years to reach a similar milestone, while it took more than a decade for Gmail.
Google’s growing Gemini user base has been supported by its integration across Android smartphones. Gemini now serves as the default assistant on many Android devices and also powers features such as Gemini Live and Circle to Search.
Google said that more than 63% of Gemini users interact with the AI assistant using their voice. Around 1 in five Gemini Live interactions also involve camera or screen sharing. Users reportedly generate around 150 million images through Gemini everyday.
