Industry Odisha Bureau, Aug 28: The 10th edition of the Women’s T20 Asia Cup begins in Dubai today on August 28, with eight teams competing for the continental title. India, Pakistan, Thailand and Hong Kong, China are in Group A. Meanwhile, defending champions Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, the UAE and Indonesia form Group B.
The top two teams from each group will qualify for the semi finals. The first semi final will be played on September 10, followed by the second on September 11. The final is scheduled for September 13.
Sri Lanka enter the tournament as defending champions after beating India in the 2024 final to win their maiden Women’s Asia Cup title. India remain the most successful team in the competition and will look to regain the trophy.
India will be led by Harmanpreet Kaur, with Smriti Mandhana as vice captain. However, the team will be without Jemimah Rodrigues, who suffered a hamstring injury while playing in The Hundred. Pratikha Rawal has been named as her replacement.
Meanwhile, Sri Lanka will also miss all rounder Dewmi Vihanga due to a knee injury, while Bangladesh have replaced injured pacer Fariha Islam Trisna with Farjana Easmin.
All matches will begin at 8PM IST. Sony Sports Network will broadcast the tournament, while live streaming will be available on Sony LIV.
