For young people in Kalahandi, vocational training can open new pathways to employment. Practical skills can help them gain confidence, prepare for the workplace and find jobs across different sectors.
Through its skill development efforts, Vedanta Aluminium at Lanjigarh has trained more than 1,000 youths in the region. Over 75% of those trained have secured employment opportunities in Odisha.
Training is offered through residential and non-residential centres in Lanjigarh and Bhawanipatna. Participants can choose from courses such as Assistant Electrician, Sewing Machine Operator and Food & Beverage Associate. The programme also includes soft skills, IT and workplace-readiness training, along with placement support.
The programme is supported through partnerships with OSDA and NABARD, helping participants gain practical skills that can be applied in different workplaces.
From Training to Employment
Abhiram Harijan from Musanal village is one of the participants who found a new employment opportunity through the programme.
Coming from a financially constrained background, Abhiram had limited job opportunities. He joined the programme to develop technical skills and improve his workplace readiness.
Along with technical training, he received soft skills development and placement assistance. The training helped him secure employment and establish a regular source of income.
“The training gave me the skills and confidence needed to build a better future. Securing a job has helped me support my family and look for better opportunities,” said Abhiram.
Building Skills for the Future
Abhiram’s experience shows how skill development in Kalahandi can help young people prepare for employment. Access to practical training can give them the skills needed to explore new career opportunities and build more stable livelihoods.
Through Vedanta Lanjigarh, Vedanta Aluminium continues to support access to vocational training and employment opportunities for youth around its operations.
With more than 1,000 youths trained so far, the initiative is helping young people in Kalahandi gain practical skills, enter the workforce and work towards greater financial independence.
