Industry Odisha Bureau, Oct 16: The Odisha State Election Commission (SEC) will conduct a door-to-door voter survey from October 26 to November 7. This will be in order to prepare electoral rolls for the 2027 panchayat and urban local body elections.
State Election Commissioner Madhusudan Padhi said draft electoral rolls would be published on January 1, 2027. Meanwhile, final lists would be released on February 10 after verification of claims and objections. Voters will get 20 days to raise objections or seek corrections.
Notably, the survey aims to ensure eligible members of a household are listed under the same ward and polling booth. It will also identify deceased and relocated voters. And, it will include eligible people missing from the rolls and correct errors in household details and booth allocation.
Padhi said that a pilot survey across all 30 districts found that 7.61 per cent of voters remained listed despite death or migration. Meanwhile, 4.87 percent of eligible voters were missing from the electoral rolls.
The SEC also plans to address urban polling booth discrepancies, where voters from multiple localities may be assigned to one booth or residents of a single locality distributed across several booths.
Notably, each household will receive a unique house number, linking its members to the relevant electoral roll. Around 45,200 teams, comprising two to three members each, will conduct the survey. Booth level officers, Anganwadi workers, Jal Saathis, Swachh Sathis and ASHA workers will verify household information.
The SEC has further urged citizens to provide accurate details and political parties to appoint booth level agents to support the exercise.
