Industry Odisha Bureau, Sep 10: Odisha is set to strengthen its renewable energy footprint. The Energy Department will host a Stakeholder Dialogue on Small Hydro Power on September 11, 2026.
Shri Vishal Dev, Additional Chief Secretary, Energy and E&IT, will deliver the Special Address. Industry leaders, developers, financiers and regulators will attend the dialogue.
The consultation aims to build an investment-ready roadmap for Odisha’s small hydro sector. It will focus on unlocking the state’s unexploited clean energy potential.
Gridco Odisha, the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, IREDA, SECI and iFOREST are jointly organising the event. Their partnership underscores growing momentum for regional clean energy development.
Small Hydro Power projects, ranging from 1 to 25 MW, offer reliable, low-impact clean energy. They also require shorter timelines than large hydroelectric installations.
India holds an estimated Small Hydro Power potential of 21,133.61 MW. Only around 5,171 MW has been developed so far nationally.
Odisha holds a significant, largely untapped share of this potential. Targeted policy support and capital investment could unlock major expansion opportunities.
Participants will assess technical, financial and regulatory frameworks at the dialogue. Their goal is removing bottlenecks and accelerating sustainable hydropower growth statewide.
