Industry Odisha Bureau, Aug 31: Odisha is likely to receive heavy rainfall for the next three days as a low pressure area continues to influence weather conditions over the state, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Sunday.
Heavy rainfall has already affected several parts of Odisha over the past two days. The intensity of rainfall is expected to remain high, particularly in the northern districts.
The IMD has issued a red warning for Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj and Balasore, forecasting very heavy rainfall. Further, an orange warning has been issued for eight districts. These include Cuttack, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Dhenkanal, Angul, Deogarh, Sambalpur and Sundargarh. These districts may receive heavy rainfall of more than 20 cm.
A yellow warning has been issued for all other districts.
Manoroma Mohanty, Director of the Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar said light to moderate rain is likely across the state over the next 24 hours. However, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar and Balasore could witness heavy to extremely heavy rain.
The fresh spell has also raised concerns about flooding in areas where water levels had recently receded. Residents have been advised to remain alert and follow local authorities’ instructions.
Thunderstorms and lightning are also likely in several parts of Odisha during that period.
