Industry Odisha Bureau, Sep 19: Delhi International Airport will reopen its third runway from September 20. The runway returns after nearly seven months of rehabilitation work. Delhi International Airport Limited said all required approvals have been secured. The reopening should improve flight handling and operational reliability.
Third Runway Returns to Service
Runway 11R/29L underwent extensive strengthening and resurfacing. The rehabilitation programme began in February. The work focused on safety, efficiency and long term capacity. The runway had remained in service for 17 years. Routine maintenance had continued before the latest upgrade.
Reopen Plan Follows Major Upgrades
The third runway received several operational enhancements. These included runway resurfacing and pavement strengthening. A new rapid exit taxiway was also constructed. Airfield ground lighting systems were upgraded. Associated civil and electrical infrastructure also received improvements.

Delhi International Airport currently operates four runways. It handles more than 1,300 daily flight movements. The airport can process up to 106 million passengers annually. The third runway reopening should support more efficient aircraft movement. It could also reduce runway occupancy time.
