Industry Odisha Bureau, Sep 24: Myntra is creating more than 26,000 temporary jobs for the festive season. The workers will staff fulfilment centres ahead of peak demand. Women and differently abled workers feature in the plan.
Myntra is building a much larger seasonal workforce this year. The fashion ecommerce company will hire more than 26,000 temporary workers this festive season. That is more than double the 11,000 temporary positions it created last year.
The roles are based at its fulfilment centres. The hiring comes ahead of the company’s Big Fashion Festival. For India ecommerce jobs, it is a notable seasonal signal from one company.
Festive Demand Drives Myntra’s Hiring Surge
Festive sales events typically raise the workload inside fulfilment centres. The Big Fashion Festival marks one such peak period for Myntra. Temporary staffing lets retailers add capacity without permanent headcount changes. Myntra’s plan follows that seasonal logic, on a far larger scale than last year.
The increase in staffing does not, by itself, signal higher sales.
Fulfilment Centres Become the Staffing Focus
The temporary workers will be spread across five fulfilment centres. These are in Bengaluru, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bilaspur and Binola in Gurugram. A city-wise breakdown of the hiring was not available. The centres should therefore not be seen as equal hiring hubs.
Temporary Workers Support the Delivery Chain
The jobs cover most stages of the order journey. Sorting and grading workers handle products as they move through the warehouse. Packing staff prepare orders for dispatch. Last-mile delivery workers take parcels to customers’ doors. Customer service roles support shoppers when queries arise.
Together, these functions form the chain between an online order and delivery. Adding workers at each stage expands the capacity of that chain during the peak.
Women and Inclusive Hiring in the Workforce Plan
Inclusion is built into the staffing plan. Women will make up about one-third of the fulfilment-centre workforce. That figure applies to the fulfilment-centre workforce specifically. It should not be read as a share of all 26,000-plus positions.
Myntra has also designated more than 350 roles for differently abled individuals. These roles are earmarked, not necessarily filled yet. Both measures widen who can access festive-season work.
Seasonal Hiring Reflects Peak Retail Planning
Temporary jobs suit festive ecommerce because demand rises sharply but briefly. Seasonal staff give companies flexible capacity for a defined period. The positions remain temporary, not permanent workforce expansion.
Myntra’s plan is also company-specific. It says little, on its own, about India’s wider ecommerce jobs market.
Myntra is preparing for its festive sales with a far bigger temporary workforce. More than double last year’s intake, the hiring expands its peak operating capacity. It also includes clear commitments on women and differently abled workers. The jobs, however, remain seasonal by design. Its real test lies in execution through the festival period.
