Industry Odisha Bureau, Aug 26: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will hold its annual general meeting and elections in Mumbai on September 18. Key items on the agenda include the selection of two representatives for the IPL Governing Council. Notably, the board has also proposed adding a representative from the Indian Crickets’ Association to the IPL Governing Council. Members will further discuss BCCI representatives at the International Cricket Council (ICC).
The election process will begin with members submitting details of their representatives by August 31. A draft electoral roll will be published on September 1. Meanwhile, candidates will be able to file nominations on September 9 and 10 between 11 am and 4 pm.
The final list of candidates is scheduled to be released on September 12. Voting and the announcement of results will take place on September 18.
Further, the AGM will also consider a proposal to grant associate membership to the Cricket Association Andaman and Nicobar. It is to be noted that the organisation currently has no affiliation with the BCCI.
Approval would potentially open the door for the board to support cricket development across the Union territory., including infrastructure, coaching and matches. However, an Andaman and Nicobar team is unlikely to immediately enter India’s domestic competitions.
The development of players and cricket facilities would likely take place gradually before the islands could be considered for participation in the BCCI’s domestic tournaments. Currently, the BCCI has 38 teams participating in its major domestic competitions. If the proposal eventually leads to full participation, Andaman and Nicobar could become another addition to India’s domestic cricket structure.
