Industry Odisha Bureau, Aug 22: Since handling the formal tax compliance and maintaining the requisite financial records turn out to be a complicated affair for the self-employed individuals, especially for the small businesses and professionals, financial experts have reportedly suggested for the ‘Presumptive Taxation’ as it is claimed to be offering a simpler alternative. Talking about the purpose of the ‘Presumptive Taxation’, financial experts have reportedly stated that, “It is a simplified tax scheme under the Income Tax Act, 1961 (and consolidated under Section 58 of the Income Tax Act, 2025 from Tax Year 2026‑27). Industry Odisha Bureau, Aug 22: Going by the ‘stronger-than-expected high-frequency indicators’, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is now reportedly optimistic of India’s economy outshining its earlier forecast of 6.7% in the ongoing fiscal year 2026-27 (FY27). Quoting incumbent RBI Deputy Governor Poonam Gupta’s speech on August 20, media reports have stated that, “India’s economy based on stronger-than-expected high-frequency indicators could exceed RBI’s earlier forecast of 6.7% growth in FY27 and may move closer to 7-7.5%, and we should aspire to do better than that. The country is set to remain the world’s fastest growing major economy.” Citing the RBI’s…
Industry Odisha Bureau, Aug 22: Sugar prices surged from ₹48.18 to ₹58.20 per kilogram over a one-month period in July-August. The government attributed the increase primarily to lower-than-expected domestic sugar production rather than ethanol diversion. Higher festive-season demand and weather-related crop damage have further tightened India’s domestic sugar availability. Current-season domestic sugar production is estimated at approximately 30.6 million tonnes overall. This represents a significant shortfall from the initial production estimate of 34.35 million tonnes. The production decline reflects substantial weakness in sugarcane output during the growing period. Crop damage drove the shortfall through multiple agricultural challenges affecting India’s sugarcane…
Industry Odisha Bureau, Aug 22: Forecast models indicate that El Niño could reach unprecedented strength this year, with Pacific waters potentially warming more than three degrees above historical averages. For India, this represents additional pressure on both the monsoon and agricultural production immediately. The prospective warming would dwarf most El Niño events recorded in modern climate history, according to Britain’s Met Office. Adam Scaife, head of long-range forecasting at the UK Met Office, calls the forecast unprecedented in intensity and scale. A two-degree Pacific warming is typically considered a major climate event globally, yet current projections exceed three degrees substantially.…
