Industry Odisha Bureau, Oct 26: Apple Operations India widens its global role beyond manufacturing support, filings show. Apple has started earning software revenue in India. Its subsidiary Apple Operations India reported ₹650 crore from software development in FY26. The figure appears in regulatory filings reported by The Economic Times.
The unit began commercial operations only in FY25. Software development and project management generated no reported revenue that year. Both emerged as earning activities in FY26. The shift points to a wider range of services from Apple’s Indian base.
Overall growth was sharp. Total income rose to ₹1,414 crore in FY26 from ₹318 crore in FY25. That is an increase of more than four times. Expenditure climbed to ₹1,276 crore from ₹279 crore. The unit stayed profitable despite costs rising more than fourfold. Profit after tax rose to ₹103 crore from ₹28.6 crore. Total income covers all earnings, so it differs from individual service-line revenue.
Manufacturing support remains a core activity. Revenue from this segment nearly doubled to ₹520 crore from ₹282 crore. The subsidiary also provides procurement assistance to Apple group companies. This work links it closely to Apple’s expanding electronics supply chain in India. Software services now sit alongside this established function.
Almost all the work serves Apple itself. About 97% of the subsidiary’s business was undertaken for Apple’s global operations. These include Apple Inc and Apple Operations International. Apple Operations India is a direct subsidiary of Apple Inc. The concentration shows how closely the unit is woven into Apple’s structure.
Such intercompany arrangements are common among multinational groups. Affiliates often bill each other for engineering, support and sourcing services. Most of the revenue therefore reflects services to affiliates, not outside customers. It does not signal new third-party business for the Indian unit.
Industry analysts read a larger shift into the numbers. Mohit Yadav, founder of business intelligence firm AltInfo, sees a broader restructuring at work. He said Apple’s Indian operations are being reorganised, not merely expanding organically. Manufacturing alone, in his view, does not explain the growth. Yadav suggested Apple may be positioning the unit as a major global engineering hub. His view is an interpretation, not a stated Apple strategy.
The developments come as India gains weight in Apple’s worldwide business. Separately, Apple India Pvt Ltd posted ₹1,03,853 crore in FY26 revenue from operations. It was the first time that entity crossed ₹1 lakh crore. Apple India Pvt Ltd and Apple Operations India are distinct legal entities. Their figures are reported separately and should not be combined.
Global technology companies increasingly use India for software, engineering and support services. Its large engineering talent pool supports that trend.
Apple’s Indian presence now spans sales, manufacturing support and software development. The FY26 filings show a subsidiary taking on wider responsibilities within the group. How far that role expands will become clearer in future filings.
