Industry Odisha Bureau, Sept 23: In latest news, Apple is reportedly developing a screenless health and fitness band similar to devices such as Whoop and Fitbit. According to official reports, the company has been exploring the product for several months and has already built prototypes.
Reportedly, the wearable is being developed as a simpler alternative to the Apple Watch. It focuses primarily on health and fitness tracking rather than apps, notifications and other smartwatch features. If development continues as planned, then Apple could launch the device before 2028.
What will Apple’s screenless fitness band offer?
The reported prototypes have a thin fabric band with a sensor equipped computing module that sits on the wrist. The device would not have a display. It would rely on sensors to collect health and fitness data.
The project is said to have the backing of senior Apple executives, including Exec Chairman Tim Cook and Eddy Cue, Apple’s Services Chief.
Screenless fitness trackers have become increasingly popular with Whoop, Google’s Fitbit and Oura offering products focused heavily on health monitoring. Apple could use the new device to bring some of the health-tracking capabilities of the Apple Watch to a simpler wearable.
Reportedly, Apple is also working on other wearable products. These include smart glasses and camera equipped AirPods, which could arrive around 2027. The company has previously explored an AI pendant with a camera.
