Industry Odisha Bureau, April 29: The Marketing Department of SAIL’s Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) has scripted history by achieving its highest-ever revenue collection of around Rs 3,325 Crore, surpassing previous best through strategic sales and operational efficiencies.
This remarkable feat reflects robust growth across key commodities compared to FY 2024-25, with Iron & Steel leading the way at Rs 466 crore, a staggering 39 percent rise over last year, followed by Coal Chemical Items at Rs 386 crore, up by 8 percent.
Similarly, the collection from Waste Products stood at Rs 298 crore with a growth of 7 percent and Special Plate Plant at Rs 301 crore with a steady growth rate of around 3 percent.
Driving this success were pioneering initiatives, including the full introduction of paperless working across the marketing division and complete digitalization of mine marketing functions within the SAP system, streamlining operations for better efficiency.
Marketing department also generated record revenues of Rs 51 crore from BOF slag sales during last year. The price of LD sludge, a process waste from convertor rose from Rs 335/T to Rs 1,122/T, marking a 235 percent increase, that maximized earning from steel process waste.
In the face of acute rake availability, the department swiftly mitigated a crisis of excess Blast Furnace Granulated slag within just 2-3 months, demonstrating agile crisis management and market savviness. These accomplishments not only bolster SAIL’s bottom line but also position Rourkela Steel Plant as a leader in sustainable and effective steel marketing.
