Industry Odisha Bureau, Oct 07: In latest news, Apple is reportedly working with LG to expand its smart home ecosystem with a range of connected accessories. These include a video doorbell, security cameras, thermostat and smart lock.
As Bloomberg reports, the companies are jointly developing the products. Notably, the products are expected to complement Apple’s upcoming smart home hardware. The reported line-up includes a wired video doorbell, indoor and outdoor cameras, a floodlight camera, smart deadbolt lock, thermostat and temperature sensor.
The products are expected to carry LG branding, with the South Korean company responsible for manufacturing and customer support. Apple would therefore be able to expand its smart home offering while avoiding the costs involved in producing and servicing a wider range of accessories itself.
Regulatory filings reportedly list names such as LG Video Doorbell Wired, LG Floodlight Cam, LG Outdoor Cam Plug-In and LG smart Thermostat. The devices are expected to work with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, as well as Thread and Matter, the connectivity standards increasingly used across smart home platforms. The smart lock could also feature ultra-wideband (UWB) technology for proximity based unlocking.
The accessories are expected to work alongside Apple’s planned smart home hub, an upgraded HomePod mini and new Apple TV device. Together, the products could form the basis of a broader push to revive Apple’s HomeKit ecosystem.
Apple is expected to unveil its own new home devices before LG launches the accessories, with the latter reportedly arriving several months later.
