Industry Odisha Bureau, Jun 28: Soon after the confirmation of involvement in a sexual harassment case, the Meghalaya Cricket Association (MCA) has reportedly slapped a lifetime ban on the coach and manager of the State’s Under-23 Women’s Cricket team.
Addressing media persons yesterday (June 27), MCA president and Rajya Sabha member James P.K. Sangma reportedly told that, “The action has been initiated against the two accused following an order passed by the Meghalaya State Commission for Women (MSCW).”
Sangma also reportedly informed that, “MCA has also suspended its honorary secretary, Rayonald Kharkamni, for allegedly suppressing the complaints submitted in December 2025 when the team was in Tripura’s capital, Agartala, for a tournament.”
“Besides, the honorary secretary’s unethical role has also been referred to the MCA ombudsman, retired high court judge B.D. Agarwal,” Sangma reportedly added.
The incumbent MCA president also reportedly underlined that, “the lifetime ban slapped on the coach and manager will also be communicated to other State cricket bodies so that the two banned persons are not even employed anywhere else.”
Reportedly, “Since Sangma assumed the charge of MCA presidentship in March 2026 and the incident had taken place in December 2025, no action could be taken as the MCA did not have an Internal Complaints Committee, a mandatory requirement under the Prevention of Sexual Harassment Act.”
Reportedly “admitting such a serious lapse as the MCA secretary kept the new executive body in dark about the serious allegations,” new MCA president Sangma “vowed to form the mandatory committee at the earliest.”
