Industry Odisha Bureau, Jun 27: With an aim to take Odia film industry to next-level, the State Government will soon bring a film policy for the all-round development of Odia cinema and protection of artists.
The new Film Policy aimed at revitalising the Odia film industry, promoting quality film production and ensuring the welfare and social security of artists, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said here yesterday.
Addressing the 35th and 36th State Film Awards ceremony here, the Chief Minister said the proposed policy would provide a comprehensive roadmap for the growth of the Odia film industry.
The announcement assumes significance as the Odia film industry has been grappling with declining box-office returns and shrinking theatrical presence.
For years, filmmakers and industry stakeholders have been demanding a comprehensive film policy, including production incentives and government support to revive the regional cinema sector.
Odia cinema is the identity of our community. For its all-round development and protection of artists, the state government is going to enact a new Film Policy very soon.”
Majhi said that his government is committed to providing technical assistance for production of high-quality films and good news will be received in this direction very soon.
Highlighting the era of technology and the importance of OTT platforms, he said that the new generation has adopted world-class technology in the fields of cinematography, sound design and VFX.
Kalinga Studios is being developed as a major digital and post-production hub in the country in offering international standard training to young talents of Odisha, so that the next generation does not have to go to other states for work.
He also called upon the filmmakers of the country and the state to develop cinema tourism based on the natural beauty of Odisha.
The Chief Minister urged both sponsors and viewers to support Odia cinema. If sponsors make films based on the basic content of Odia society and culture with modernity, the audience will definitely return to the theater, he asserted.
Similarly, urging the audience to go to the cinema hall and watch Odia films, he said that the livelihood of hundreds of unknown technicians, writers and poor workers is involved behind a film.
