Industry Odisha Bureau, Aug 6: Indian rupee once again depreciated 9 paise to 95.17 against the US dollar in early trade on Thursday.
At the interbank foreign exchange market, the rupee opened at 95.13, then touched 95.17 against the American currency, registering a fall of 9 paise from its previous close. On Wednesday, the rupee settled at 95.08 against the Dollar.
Brent crude, the global oil benchmark, was trading 0.20 per cent lower at USD 79.29 per barrel in futures trade.
On the domestic equity market front, Sensex climbed 201.43 points to 78,782.43 in opening trade, while Nifty was marginally up by 16.35 points to 24,641.
Foreign institutional investors turned to selling and offloaded equities worth Rs 943.42 crore on a net basis on Wednesday, according to exchange data.
Meanwhile, Sensex and Nifty 50 opened slightly higher on Thursday, supported by a decline in crude oil prices and buying interest in Reliance Industries, despite mixed global market cues.
The Sensex rose 201.43 points to 78,782.43 in early trade, while the Nifty 50 gained 16.35 points to 24,641.
The benchmark indices have witnessed divergent closing trends since Monday, following the introduction of the Closing Auction Session (CAS) for stocks with futures and options (F&O) contracts.
The new auction-based mechanism, implemented in the equity cash segment, aims to improve the transparency and efficiency of the closing price discovery process.
Investor sentiment remained supported after the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) kept the repo rate unchanged at 5.25% for the fourth consecutive policy meeting on Wednesday and retained its ‘neutral’ policy stance.
In Asia, markets traded remained a mixed basket, with Japan’s Nikkei 225, South Korea’s KOSPI, and Hong Kong’s Hang Seng declining, while China’s Shanghai Composite edged higher.
Overnight, US markets ended mostly lower. Meanwhile, Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) remained net sellers, offloading Indian equities worth Rs 943.42 crore on Wednesday, according to exchange data.
