Industry Odisha Bureau, Sep 01: The Lok Bhavan of Odisha has acquired the prestigious Green Campus Certification rating of IGBC. This makes the Governor’s campus the first in India to receive the rating from India Green Building Council (IGBC). Dr Hari Babu Kambhampati received the highest green certification rating from IGBC national chairperson C Sekhar Reddy.
The certification reflects a comprehensive, campus-wide commitment to ecological sustainability. Lok Bhavan scored 88 out of 100 from the IGBC and maintains over 80 percent green cover. An environmental audit recorded 2,374 trees spanning 72 species across the property.
Resource Efficiency and Renewable Energy
Sustainable resource management has driven significant gains: water consumption has fallen by more than 35 percent, aided by an integrated rainwater harvesting and groundwater recharge system. On the energy front, the campus has installed 635 kWp of solar power capacity, advancing its goal of becoming a Net Zero campus, with an Energy Performance Index of 50.57 kWh per square metre annually.
Waste Management and Green Mobility
The campus achieves 100 percent treatment and reuse of organic waste, along with complete diversion of dry waste from landfills. Internal transport is fully electric, supported by dedicated charging infrastructure — making Lok Bhavan the first Lok Bhavan in India to operate an all-electric official carcade, setting a benchmark for government institutions nationwide.
