Industry Odisha Bureau, Aug 29: A fresh spell of heavy rainfall is expected to continue across Odisha as a low pressure area is likely to form over the northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining north Odisha coast on Saturday. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued weather warnings for several districts. Rainfall is expected to intensify over the coming days.
A cyclonic circulation over the North Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas of West Bengal and Bangladesh is likely to support the formation of the low pressure system.
The IMD has issued an Orange warning for multiple districts. This includes Balasore, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj on Saturday, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places.
Rainfall activity is expected to increase on Sunday. Balasore, Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur, Keonjhar, Kendrapara and Mayurbhanj placed under an Orange Warning.
Mayurbhanj is likely to face the most intense conditions on Monday. The IMD has also issued a Red Warning for the district. Heavy to very heavy rainfall, along with extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places, has been forecast.
Rainfall and thunderstorms are likely to continue across Odisha for the next five days as the weather system remains active. The IMD has also warned of rough sea conditions along the Odisha coast and advised fishermen not to venture into the sea during this period.
