Industry Odisha Bureau, Sep 22: Heavy rain has lashed out in several parts of the state today. Odisha is likely to drench more as the depression over West Central and adjoining Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify in 12 hours. It is moving in the west-northwestwards direction.
Following the western movement, it is flowing in the central direction at around 05:30 Hrs IST on Tuesday. The depression is over the same region near latitude 17.9°N and longitude 86.3°E, about 220 km southeast of Gopalpur, 220 km south-southeast of Puri, 230 km east-southeast of Kalingapatnam and 320 km east of Visakhapatnam.
It is very likely to move west-northwestwards & intensify into a deep depression over Westcentral & adjoining Northwest Bay of Bengal during next 12 hours. Continuing to move west-northwestwards it is very likely to cross north Andhra Pradesh – South Odisha coasts between Visakhapatnam & Gopalpur as a Deep Depression during 2330 Hrs IST of 23 September to 0230 Hrs IST of 24th September.

The State government has declared school closures, keeping in view the safety of the students. Following, IMD’s forecasts, Khurda, Ganjam Gajapati and Jagatsinghpur district administration passed an order to keep the schools closed from September 22 to September 24. The heavy rains have disrupted normal day-to-day lives also.
It is worth mentioning that the National Rural Talent Scholarship (NRTS) examination scheduled to be held today on September 22 has not been withhold at will occur as per the schedule.
On the other hand, the leaves of government’s employees were closed and several emergency relief teams were deployed.
