Industry Odisha Bureau, Sep 1: In the wake of HDFC Bank’s incumbent Chief Executive Officer (CEO)-cum-Managing Director (MD) Sashidhar Jagdishan’s superannuation slated on October 26 this year, incumbent Deputy MD (DyMD) Kaizad Barucha is most expected to be the next CEO-cum-MD who has been donning the DyMD post since 2023, and also dubbed to be the longest-serving executive board member.
Media reports have stated that, “In accordance with the Rules mandated by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), HDFC must submit a list of eligible candidates for the top post following which the management is simultaneously in quest of an eligible candidate externally even though 60-year-old Barucha is the frontrunner and strong internal contender since he has co-chaired HDFC’s Integration Committee as well as led HDFC’s multiple posts.”
Elaborating on Kaizad Barucha’s curriculum vitae (CV) and long association with HDFC since 1995, media reports have further stated that, “Barucha, an alumnus of Sydenham College of Commerce and Economics (University of Mumbai) holding a Bachelor’s degree in Commerce (B Com), previously worked with SBI Commercial and the International Bank. He became a Board Member of HDFC in 2014, while took charge as DyMD on April 19, 2023. Currently, he leads HDFC’s Corporate Banking, Emerging Corporates Group, Business Banking – Working Capital, Investment Banking, Rural Banking Group, Emerging Enterprises Group, Healthcare Finance, Sustainable Livelihood, Retail Assets and Mortgage Business. He also oversees Transportation, Tractor Finance, Infrastructure Group and Realty Business Finance.”
Media reports have also added that, “Barucha also heads the Inclusive Banking Initiatives Group, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) functions.”
Media reports, citing further inputs from the HDFC Bank’s website, have also stated that, “In his role as the head of the Credit & Market Risk group, Barucha had led the risk management activities like Credit Risk, Market Risk, Debt Management, Risk Intelligence and Control Functions prior to joining the HDFC Bank’s Board.”
