Industry Odisha Bureau, Aug 21: The provisional data reportedly released on Thursday by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MOCI) has reportedly stated that India’s nine core infrastructure sectors grew 5.4% in July this year in comparison to last year, easing from the revised 6% growth recorded in June this year.
Media reports, citing the MOCI’s provisional data, have stated that, “The July growth was led by expansion of iron ore, cement and electricity to 29.5%, 13.1% and 9%, respectively, while coal output rose 7.6%, steel and refinery products grew 2.9% and 2.7% respectively. However, natural gas, crude oil and fertiliser production contracted during July 2026.”
Notably, “The core sector data is claimed to be an important indicator of industrial activity in India since the nine core industries (iron ore, electricity, cement, coal, steel, natural gas, crude oil refinery products, fertilizer production) together reportedly account for 40.27% of the weight of items included in the Index of Industrial Production (IIP).”
