Industry Odisha Bureau, Jul 3: Continuing its improvement in the operational performance, the national transporter Indian Railways reportedly registered healthy growth also in June this year in both its freight volumes and passenger traffic.
As per media reports, “The Indian Railways carried 638.1 million passengers in June 2026, i.e. 2.3% up from 623.7 million in June 2025.”
Media reports also added, “The non-suburban segment, covering short and long distance travel, recorded 3.9% growth in June 2026, with the passenger numbers increasing from 289 million to 300.4 million, while the suburban segment registered 0.9% passenger growth, from 334.6 million to 337.7 million”.
Besides, media reports further said that, “The number of Vande Bharat services has increased to 164, including the recently introduced Vande Bharat Sleeper service between Howrah and Kamakhya, while the number of Amrit Bharat train services has reached 72, with four new services inaugurated during June 2026.”
So far, the freight loading by the Indian Railways is concerned, media reports said that, “It grew 4% to 142.21 million tonnes during June 2026 as compared to 136.71 million tonnes in June 2025.”
Accordingly, the Indian Railways also reportedly recorded “healthy growth in freight earnings, generating additional revenue of about Rs 430 crore during June 2026, an increase of 3% over June 2025.”
