Industry Odisha Bureau, Jul 4: India’s apex defence procurement body, named Defence Acquisition Council (DAC), reportedly accorded its Acceptance of Necessity (AoN) for purchasing weapons and systems worth Rs 52,000 crore in a bid to further boost up the capabilities of the Indian armed forces.
Media reports quoting the Defence Ministry’s statement said that the DAC also nodded AoN for purchasing “very short-range air defence system (V-SHORADS), an active protection system for tanks, and a jet-based Kamikaze drone system.”
Media reports quoting the Defence Ministry’s statement added that the DAC also nodded AoN for purchasing “anti-unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) electronic warfare system Akash Tarang and man-portable anti-tank guided missile (MPATGM) systems, and medium-range surface-to-air missile (MRSAM) weapon system.”
Media reports quoting the Defence Ministry’s statement further said that the Indian Air Force (IAF) also received AoN from the DAC for the procurement of “fixed-wing-based high-altitude pseudo satellite (FW-HAPS) that would carry out intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR), telecommunication, and remote sensing missions for the Air Force.”
