Industry Odisha Bureau, Jul 31: Hollywood movie “The Odyssey”, written and directed by Christopher Nolan, has reportedly carved a niche by commanding the opening figure of over Rs 16 crore income on its first day release in India.
Media reports, quoting movie experts and critics, have stated that, “It is crystal clear and evident enough to comment that select Hollywood moviemakers, actors and brands can command a big draw on day one at the Indian box office. Accordingly, Hollywood film director Christopher Nolan has demonstrated his ability to woo not only the audiences, but also the movie buffs.”
Media reports, quoting movie experts and critics, have also stated that, “Christopher Nolan is one of the Hollywood names those who have built credibility and trust over the years as well as well-known among the Indian movie lovers.”
Elucidating on it, media reports, quoting movie experts and critics, have further stated that, ”Hollywood movie ‘The Odyssey’ by world-renowned movie director Christopher Nolan has opened even bigger than the recent releases of Bollywood stars Akshay Kumar and Ajay Devgn. While Akshay Kumar’s ‘Bhooth Bangla’ earned Rs 11.5 crore on its first day, Devgn’s ‘Dhamaal 4’ clocked Rs 13.7 crore.”
Pertinent to note here that, “Christopher Nolan’s ‘Oppenheimer’ released on July 21, 2023 in India had clocked Rs 14.45 crore on the first day, while another noted Hollywood director Michael Chaves’ horror film ‘The Conjuring: Last Rites’ released in India on September 5 last year (2025) clocked Rs 16.9 crore on day one at the box office.”
Notably, “The Odyssey is an epic action–fantasy adaptation of Homer’s ancient Greek epic, starring Matt Damon as Odysseus alongside Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Zendaya, Charlize Theron, and others. The Odyssey follows Odysseus’ decade-long journey home after the Trojan War, encountering gods, monsters, and trials. The film was shot entirely on IMAX 70 mm film cameras and is one of Nolan’s most ambitious projects.”
