Industry Odisha Bureau, Sept 17: Oracle is undergoing a major global restructuring, with the company beginning its second round of layoffs in 2026 this week. The move could affect thousands of employees worldwide, including workers in India.
Amid the layoffs, new Chief Financial Officer Hilary Maxson addressed employees at an all hands meeting. She urged them to be more deliberate about how the company uses its time and money.
According to reports from Business Insider, Maxson said employees should help sustain Oracle’s financial growth by being “thoughtful about where we spend our time and money.” She clarified that the message was not about “doing more with less,” but about simplifying processes that do not benefit customers and directing resources towards areas with greater impact.
The meeting was Maxson’s first company wide address since she became CFO in April.
Oracle reportedly began its second round of layoffs on September 14, with employees informed through an early morning email. Notably, the company had already cut around 21,000 jobs, or 13% of its workforce, in the fiscal year that ended on May 31, 2026.
The latest meeting did not directly address the layoffs by Oracle. Instead, executives discussed growth, customer demand and opportunities linked to artificial intelligence.
Co-CEO Mike Sicilia also asked employees to consider how their work improves customer outcomes.
Oracle is simultaneously increasing spending on AI infrastructure. The company reported first quarter capital expenditure of $28.5 billion, compared with $8.5 billion a year earlier. It maintained its fiscal 2027 capital expenditure forecast at $90 billion-$95 billion.
Reports also suggest up to 3,000 employees could be affected in India, although Oracle has not confirmed the figure. Product engineering teams are reportedly among those potentially affected.
