Bhubaneswar, Feb 19: When ‘Climate Change’ and ‘Global Warming’ have been lurking in the face of our unique planet called Earth, and an impending catastrophe is looming large over the world’s survival, almost all the countries, especially, the developed as well as the developing nations, have reportedly woken up to the clarion call of tackling the exigencies by evolving out ways and means in a bid to scuttle the sword of Damocles dangling over our heads.
Thus, a million dollar question on the role of our very own India is quite obvious.
Reports claim that India is well aware of its pivotal role and financial commitment to fighting ‘Climate Change’ following which the Government of India (GoI) has reportedly augmented its spending on the climate action significantly.
While addressing the “Degrees of Instability: Climate Security in a Warming World” town hall in Germany’s Munich on February 14, India’s Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman reportedly averred that India has enhanced its spending on the climate action remarkably “from 3.7 per cent of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) six years ago to nearly 5.6 per cent today.”
Thus, it implies that India has approximately doubled its spending on the emergent climate action from its own resources rather than waiting with bated breath for the international aid.
Hence, it could be surmised that India’s proactive approach is in accordance with the age-old adage, “a stitch in time saves nine”, instead of “better late than never” eventually resulting in “crying over spilt milk”.
