Industry Odisha Bureau, Sept 24: Defending champions India secured their place in the men’s Kabaddi semi finals at the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya after defeating Chinese Taipei 37-21 in their final Group A match on Thursday.
India completed a perfect group stage campaign with four wins from four matches. They had earlier defeated South Korea, Japan, and Bangladesh. The latest victory also guaranteed India at least a bronze medal as they continued their title defence.
India started strongly, with Asla Inamdar and Rahul Sethpal putting pressure on Chinese Taipei. Sethpal stood out in defence. He made several successful ankle holds to restrict the opposition’s raiders.
India soon forced an all-out and built a comfortable lead. Despite Chinese Taipei’s attempts to stay in the contest through bonus points and Super Tackles, India continues to score consistently. Another all-out before half-time helped India take a 23-11 lead into the break.
Chinese Taipei tried to fight back after the restart. However, India maintained control. Devank Dalal and Ayan Lohchab contributed important raid points. Meanwhile, the defence continued to limit Taipei’s scoring opportunities.
India eventually secured another all out to strengthen their advantage. Chinese Taipei managed nine bonus points and two Super Tackles, but could not match India’s overall consistency. India scored 28 raid points, three bonus points and six points through all-outs.
India will now play their semi final on September 25. The India women’s team has also made a strong start. They defeated Bangladesh and Iran in their opening two Group A matches. They will now face hosts Japan later on Thursday.
